MARC NIELSON | NURSE, SAMPSON, PETER (He/Him)
Marc has been acting the words of William Shakespeare since long before he ever understood the meaning of anything the characters were saying. His acting style has often been compared to that of James Aberswithe or perhaps a young Neal Ginsburg. Once a peer of Marc told him he had the subtlety of Fred “Magic Hands” Harpsmith and the piercing intensity of Albert Nealburt Butte. Of course none of this praise would be worth anything if Marc hadn’t studied religiously under the guidance of Sir Darry Yonslo III, I’m sure we can all recognize the name of the man who founded the Yonslo Institute of Artistic Development and Cancer Research, may he rest in peace. However, before Sir Yonslo died, he told Marc that he believed he was going to be the next Gerald Nettersfield or an even better Kip Salinger. Those words inspired Marc to work even harder and he believes he has surpassed those men and has become the new Quentin Weston. Marc promises this will be a performance to remember.
EMILIE STARR | FRAIR, ABRAMS (She/Her)
Emilie is over the moon to be back in R+J: Star Cross'd Death Match, she once drank the poison as Juliet and now gets to hand it out as Friar Lawrence. As a successful starving actress in Utah, she’s popped up on stages all across the state in shows like Virtue, An Evening with Two Awful Men, The Ice Front, Diary of Worm, a Spider, and a Fly, Mr. Perfect, Cowboy Mouth, Closer, The Sound of Music, and Next to Normal. Emilie is happiest when diving into weird, wonderful theatre that’s a little outside the lines, and she’s endlessly grateful to keep scheming with Utah’s boldest theatre-makers.
CYNTHIA FLEMING | EXECUTIVE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR/CO-DIRECTOR (She/Her)
Cynthia Fleming has been an integral part of Salt Lake Acting Company since 1998 and was named Executive Artistic Director in 2015. Over the years, Cynthia has lovingly shaped Salt Lake Acting Company into what it is today - creating and implementing SLAC’s Arts Education Programs (Title I Arts Education Program, Professional Theatre Program), deepening SLAC’s commitment to New Play Development through the Playwrights’ Lab, establishing a culture of community through the Making Space for Artists Program, outreach, and partnerships with other organizations. Under Cynthia’s leadership, SLAC has continually set the standard for accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion; in 2020, SLAC launched The Amberlee Fund, a capital campaign to make SLAC’s historic building wheelchair accessible. To date, Cynthia has produced over 100 plays.
